Our series on lawyer review websites continues with look at Mardindale.com. To check out the other blog posts in this series, click here to visit the Spotlight on Lawyer Review Websites section of our blog. Keep reading to learn what you need to know about Martindale.com.
Originally founded in 1868, when lawyer and businessman James B. Martindale first published The Martindale Directory, Martindale.com is a lawyer review website containing profiles of over 1 million lawyers in the U.S., Canada, and 160 other countries.
The site allows visitors to browse lawyers and law firms by practice areas as well as business locations. Martindale.com also features the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, a system designed to provide objective indicators of a lawyer’s ethical standards and legal acumen, based on peer evaluations.
In addition to the rating system and lawyer reviews, Martindale offers the following categories of content to support lawyers in key ways:
Professional Development:
The Professional Development section of the website is a useful resource for people working within the legal profession. This section houses the Career Center – which features a listing of employment opportunities for lawyers seeking jobs in law firms and as in-house counsel. The professional development section of Martindale.com also contains a great list of associations for attorneys, which is super useful for attorneys who are expanding their network as they increase their influence (something I highly recommend).
Market your Firm:
This section of the website provides detailed information about how the Martindale-Hubble / LexisNexis network works and the resources that it provides to attorneys. If you’re interested in talking to an objective third-party before being pitched by companies like Lawyers.com, Superlawyers.com, Martindale.com and others – let’s talk. Call our office at (800) 753-6576 or send an email to CoachTC{@}Upward Action.com and I’ll help you out.
Communities:
The Communities section of Martindale.com is home to blog posts written by attorneys who are members of the site (which is free) and a legal library that contains lots of information from small and large firms alike. Topics range from the business of law to industry specific information. While a large number of the most popular articles featured on the website are old (which may cause one to discount the value of the website), there is enough recent activity to make contributing content in the form of blog post and articles well worth your time.
At the end of the day; when it comes to lawyer review website from an attorney’s perspective, Martindale.com is a pretty useful tool to have in your toolbox.
If you are an attorney who is not leveraging attorney review and ranking sites like Martindale in your law business, we should talk. If you are unsure about how to transform your law practice into a law business (which is true for lots of lawyers), we should talk. Click here to get started.
