In 2012, Rosalind Brewer made history when she became the President and CEO of Sam’s Club – which made her the first African American and first woman to hold the position of CEO at one of Wal-Mart’s business units.  Keep reading to learn 7 facts about Ms. Rosalind Brewer.

1. Fun Fact:  Mrs. Brewer was born the same year that Sam Walton opened his first store.

2. She grew up in Michigan where she was the youngest of five children. She and her siblings were the first generation to go to college.

3. Mrs. Brewer graduated from Spelman College, where she earned a B.S. in chemistry.

4. She also graduated from the Director's College at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business/Standard Law School. Ms. Brewer later attended an advanced management program at The Wharton School in Philadelphia, PA.

5. She began her career at Kimberly-Clark Corporation at age 22, where she started as a scientist – and rose to the rank of President of the Global Nonwovens Sector by 2004.

6. Ms. Brewer’s career with Walmart began in 2006 as regional vice president for operations in the state of Georgia.  From that position, she became the division president of Walmart’s Southeast market, then president of Walmart East.   In 2013, at age 49, Ms. Brewer became the first woman and the first African American to serve as President and CEO of a business unit of Wal-Mart Inc. – when she was named president of Sam's Club.

7. Ms. Brewer is wife to a former investment banker who became a stay-at-home husband and mom to their two children.
