Facebook Connect promises to be a hot new add-on!

Facebook Connect is a new application for Facebook developers which adds Facebook connections to your existing Web site, making the two sites (yours and FB) very interactive and adding a slick, new marketing tool for YOU! The sample that they have on the FacebookConnect site is an exciting example of how to tailor this application to your particular site.

The sample they use is a site for runners where, if you register on it or are a Facebook users, you can click on a form that logs details of your run AND will add it to the user’s Facebook page. The running site then has a built in list of interested readers that they can market to later. Additionally, you can maintain relationships with these individuals on Facebook. Web users can share their favorite sites easily with Facebook friends as the move around the Web and, based on the sites they visit, make new friends with similar interests. Users can also post an article or blog post from the site they are visiting to their Facebook page, further expanding your ability to reach a larger target audience! See, exciting right?

I ran through the sample FB Connects site and took the steps and if it works this easy, I think most avid Web users will opt in and business owners will certainly want to add the app to their site. Facebook Connect says “Facebook Connect is currently available as a developer sandbox only. This is similar to “Developer Mode”.This means you can develop your application, test it, integrate it into your Web site, and try out some really cool ideas. But you may not release this to your users until Facebook Connect has been announced as ready to launch.”

We’ll keep an eye open for when it is fully up and running! Let me know how you think you might use this on your site!
