Our weekly series Monday Distinctions is back! Enjoy today’s distinction.
A business phase (aka business stage) is simply the period of growth and development of your company. Businesses will go through several stages on the journey from hobby to maturity. Phases include, but are not limited to, hobby, start-up & expansion. Phases are what your business moves through - they don’t come round often. Once your business has mastered (or outgrown) its present phase, you’re off to the next one.
A business cycle is the current level of sales that your business is experiencing. Cycles are “seasonal” in that they are repeat visitors. For example, if you are in the tax service business, you can expect January - April to be a busy season each year and the summer months to be slow.

UpwardAction for Success Homework:
Phases: Become really clear about the different phases that your business will go though on your way to sustainable success. This clarity will help you do what’s necessary to successfully move to your next business phase.
Cycles: Now, learn as much as you can about the profit cycles of your business. This knowledge will allow you to plan your business actions accordingly. For example, your “slow season” is the time for intense strategy & marketing planning and implementation (among other things) so that you can primarily focus on providing fabulous customer service (or whatever else needs to be done) during your busy and most active season.
Let us know if we can help you maximize your business phases and cycles by scheduling an introductory coaching session at a special price for first time clients.

Cycles are more complex than you have outlined here. You should expand your definition on this subject.
