Monday Distinction #18
This is certainly the season for being appreciative and humbled at all of the many blessings we experience in our lives and businesses. While things may not be perfect, we can all think of how they might be worse. To foster a deeper dive into the spirit of the season, today’s distinction is about “being thankful” and “having gratitude”.
Being thankful is to acknowledge the contributions of others. While, thankfulness represents an understanding of such contributions, it does not necessarily represent a deep, heartfelt embrace of the contributions.
Having gratitude is to really feel and embrace the contributions of others and the power of the universe in your life. Gratitude moves the intellectual acknowledgement of being thankful to a deep feeling representing the intersection of intellect and soul.
So, there you have it … a quick look at the distinction between gratitude and thankfulness. We’d love to know what you think about this distinction and how it shows up in your life.
Until next time … Take GREAT Care!

Hi…
Everyone will benefit from upping their gratitude level — and the person who mainly benefits is the one who expresses gratitude. Expecting gratitude increases your vibration level and therefore directs you towards the life you are seeking.
I have a gratitude Journal which I write in each morning — and it has been a powerful influence in my development over the last few years.
Best wishes
Jeanne

thanks for the very well written post. I’m doing an article about this one in our campus journal. I’ll wite you as part of the credits
I’m sorry, but could you say that again?
The distinction between gratitude and thankfulness? Vibration level and what am I seeking again?
Sorry to be a kill joy, but what about the distinction between feelings and emotions? Or belief and faith? Or maybe what seems to be happiness and is really just a lesser degree of suffering than we are used at this point in our lives.
OK, so maybe I’m not right for a place like this. Call me a grumpy Buddhist with a thing about fluffy words. I just think we could make more progress in our lives if we put our feet on the ground first.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Robert McCulloch

Thanks for your comments, Robert. This post is about moving past the surface (being “thankful”) and really digging deep enough to reach the true essence of this feeling (having “gratitude”).
I believe words are important and powerful. I also believe words have the greatest impact when we can attach them to our authentic feelings/emotions.
This post (and blog) is all about planting our feet firmly on the ground so we are stable enough to reach and embrace our true, authentic selves. We can then create successful and sustainable businesses that honor our authentic selves.
Thanks for being a part of this discussion!

Gratitude starts at a young age by our parent’s teachers and the like.
I have taught by children to be polite in every respect and the two tiny words like “thank you” goes a long way in my book.
