Monday Distinction # 14
Today’s Monday Distinction is courtesy of a fabulous post by Steven Straus. Enjoy!
Goals are useful tools for having what you want. So, set goals, work toward them, enjoy achieving them. Set more goals. Goals are good. They’ll get you from here to there, but they tend to be somewhat linear.
A dream has an X-factor which is missing from many goals — feelings. Dreams can be so non-linear they’re hard to articulate. In fact, at first you may not know how you’re going to achieve a dream. It’s just something you desire and feel.
Goals drive you. Dreams pull you. Goals can be “should’s.”
Dreams are always “want-to’s.”Goals tend to be based on accomplishments and achievements, providing external motivation. Dreams tend to be based on values, purpose, and principles and provide internal motivation.
