We hope you learned a bit from yesterday’s posting on 7 common mistakes of new managers. Let’s continue this exploration of what it takes to be a good manager by delving into necessary skills for effective managers and leaders.
7 Key Skills for Effective Management and Leadership
1. Learn to both inspire and motivate others.
2. Lean how to manage your time and your team’s time.
3. Recognize the importance of coaching and developing others. Consider hiring an executive/business coach to help your team become more productive and profitable than you could ever imagine. Contact us at coaching@upwardaction.com if you’d like to learn more about our corporate coaching programs.
4. Continue to develop and enhance your subject matter expertise.
5. Become an expert at delegating (and granting the proper authority necessary for others to complete the assigned tasks).
6. Hone your active listening skills. Active listening involves experiencing the message being conveyed with multiple senses (for example - learn to hear what is being said while paying close attention to body language).
7. Learn to provide others with direction in a way that inspires and motivates them to do their absolute best. This can be tricky. It will take practice and more practice to effectively guide - while not disempowering others.
We’d love to know what strategies you have in place to help you acquire and perfect these skills! Feel free to email us at coaching@upwardaction.com or leave a comments.
Until next time … Take GREAT care!
