Monday Distinction #8
Today is the 100th day before the end of 2007! That means beginning today, you have 100 days to reach your 2007 goals for yourself and/or your team. To help you jumpstart the fall season, today’s Monday Distinction explores two very similar yet very different concepts … Inspire and Motivate. Appreciating this distinction gives you a tool to help you skillfully accelerate the performance and success of your team.
This InpsirebyAction blog was created to inspire and motivate you to accelerate your performance and profitability. Let’s explore what this really means.
Inspire means to influence, move, guide or affect others. To inspire is to allow your own behavior to serve as a guide and source of influence. This concept is about how you are able to affect others based upon your action (which results in their action). To inspire others requires great discipline and personal integrity as you represent the model for action.
Motivate means to provide folks with something or reveal something to them (for example, a need or desire) that causes their action. To motivate is to help others realize their own needs and values –thus encouraging them to act based on their own self- interest. In short, motivation involves helping people unleash their personal power based upon insights and revelations about themselves.
At UpwardAction, we find it important to inspire others by our action and motivate others though using coaching as a means to facilitate self discovery.
To celebrate the fall, our favorite season at UpwardAction, we have a special week-long feature to inspire and motivate you. More information later today.
Until next time … Take Great Care!
