Janice Bryant Howroyd holds the distinction of being the first African American woman to build a billion dollar company.  She is the founder and CEO of Act 1 Group.

Under her leadership, Act 1 Group has transitioned from its humble beginnings of a single office operation to become the largest minority woman-owned employment agency in the United States with more than 1,300 people and over $1.4 billion in revenues for 2010. Its operations span across the United States and eight countries. The company’s clients include Sempra Energy, Ford Motor Company and Cingular.

As an African American business leader, Howroyd personifies the enterprising spirit of leading, successful entrepreneurs.
